Twin Oaks is an intentional community in rural central Virginia, made up of around 85 adult members and 15 children. Since the community's beginning in 1967, our way of life has reflected our values of cooperation, sharing, nonviolence, equality, and ecology. We do not have a central leader; we govern ourselves by a form of democracy with responsibility shared among various managers, planners, and committees. We are self-supporting economically, and partly self-sufficient. We are income-sharing. Each member works 42 hours a week in the community's business and domestic areas. One of Richmond's great outdoor summer festivals, it's a lot of fun no matter your interest or background - there's something for everyone! Lots of great vendors that showcase the resources available in the local area, a ton of great live music, speakers, food demonstrations, and of course some of the best food you'll ever taste. All for free - can't beat it for a fun summer day. Whether or not you're vegetarian - it's fun for everyone! Among the crowd of 4,000-5,000 that come out every year, the majority are non-vegetarians.
Charlottesville Vegetarian Festival - P.O. Box 4466, Charlottesville, VA 22905. 434-979-1200. The CVF is a free, outdoor celebration of a healthy and humane lifestyle that brings together diverse individuals and organizations who want to make the planet a more healthy, sustainable, and compassionate place for all to inhabit and enjoy. One of the largest vegetarian festivals in the United States, this one day event typically draws about 6,000 visitors. The CVF features a wide variety of vegetarian food. Free vegan food samples from natural-foods companies are also available. In addition to restaurants and food vendors, the approximately 100 exhibitors/vendors hosted by the festival also include compassionate-living advocates, nonprofit and educational organizations, and animal rescue organizations.
