Since its founding in 1935 it has served the surrounding area as grocery store, post office, art studio and home of the infamous Black Fly Festival. The Co-op is the hub of a vibrant community, joining us together as we stop for conversation while picking up our mail, volunteer in staffing the store, leave notes for each other in the community box, pick up a gallon of milk, or indulge in a quick chocolate fix. Surrounded by waterfalls and ponds, and next to the Adamant Music School and QuarryWorks Theatre, the Co-op is a wonderful destination for a meandering bike ride or drive.

In the old Grange Hall behind the fire house in downtown Plainfield is one of the oldest (and we think hippest) food co-ops on the East Coast. For 35 years, we've served generations of Vermonters who share our belief in community, political awareness, and, of course, the freshest local and organic food.

Celebrating 65 Years in Business! Shopping at the Co-op is more of a social event than a daily chore; neighbors can meet each other, catch up on local events, or find something of interest on the bulletin board. In 1992, the Co-op membership purchased land and built our beautiful 4,000 square foot store. We plan to be here, growing and changing with Putney, for the next 65 years and beyond!

We are a small natural foods co-op serving the greater Upper Valley area since 1976. International Herb Symposium - East Barre, VT. The International Herb Symposium is well known for representing a wide range of ideas, beliefs, and the various ways we have of working with healing plants from shamanic and folklore to ethnobotanical, clinical and scientific. We think the teachers and classes we've chosen for this year's IHS represent some of the great diversity found amongst herbalists and herbalism.
New England Women's Herbal Conference - E. Barre, VT. The Women's Herbal Conference features over 60 workshops for all levels of interest and experience. Workshops focus on women's health, herbal crafts, medicine making, plant identification walks and many hands-on demonstrations. Included also is an amazing evening of women talent, a great barter faire, ceremonial mask making, the annual henna party, canoeing, and many other joyful, playful and inspiring events!
